Peter stared as Meg sat up, face tearful as she shouted. “But-I-” Peter stuttered, holding up his hands in surrender. “I was giving you time to think,” he explained, his voice dropping in volume as his hands fell back to his sides.

Meg closed her eyes. Not knowing what to do anymore. There was nothing to think about now. Simba was back and Hades would never love her and Banzai deserved better. But then there was Peter and he was perfect for her in every way. They were both broken and could easily fix each other. But he was also Tinkerbell’s ex. That father of her niece. Maybe there were things to think over. “If you feel anything for me,” she said, her voice shaky, “Anything at all, then tell me. Don’t drag me along or leave me wondering.”

Peter frowns at Meg’s voice, broken and hoarse like she is about to cry. He leans towards her, leaning his forehead against hers. He cups her cheeks in his palms. “I love you, too, Meg. I do.”

Peter stared down at her, mouth slightly agape as he tried to figure out what was going on in her head. “Okay…” he murmured, leaning back against the bleachers. He would let her be, think about whatever she needed to. His fingers found her head, absently playing with her hair as his eyes wandered over her face.

With his answer came the searing hurt and pain that she feared most. He wasn’t even going to fight for her. It hurt more than it should have and that’s what made Meg sit up straight once again. The pain was evident on her face as she stared at him. “That’s it?” she said, incredulously, “That’s all you’re going to say? Not even a little fight?”

“Yeah..” he muttered, pulling back. “I should get back; Jude has probably woken up from her nap.” He jutted his thumb towards the door. He turned to go, but stopped and glanced back at her. He leaned in to hiss her lips softly, then whisper, “You look beautiful in that dress, by the way.” Then he walked out of the room, heart heavy as he left her, sending a wave and a smile in her direction

She regretted saying anything the second he pulled away. “Kiss her cute little cheeks for me?” She asked, smiling softly at him as he turned to leave, her heart aching for his embrace again. Rapunzel reveled in the soft kiss, her lips pressing back against him for the short time, and her smile returning to her lips at his whispered words. “Thanks.” She whispered back, a sigh leaving her as he walked down the hallway. She returned the wave and the smile, but once he was gone the smile faded and another sigh leaked out of her. Her heart was heavy, but she didn’t know what emotion it was portraying, because she was one big smoothie of emotions right now.

Peter smiled, burying his face in her long hair. She smelled like green apple shampoo. The smell made Peter feel at home. He wrapped his arms securely around her waist, holding her as close as he could. He let out a relieved chuckle when she said she’d still go. But there was still a bitter taste in his mouth because, as of right now, she couldn’t be his. She belonged to someone else.

Her eyes closed as he buried his face in her hair, and she inhaled his scent deeply. Letting it fill her lungs. Her lips were still swollen with heat from their kiss, the kiss that was long gone now. She longed to kiss him again, even as she knew that she shouldn’t, she did. She knew she couldn’t though, which sent and ache through her muscles. She was with Flynn, and God both of them deserved better than her, yet somehow both of them had ended up wanting her. “We should go…” She finally breathed, breaking the comfortable silence. “I have to change out of this dress anyways…”

“Hey!” Peter said sternly, standing up and gripping her shoulders as she started to ramble again. He shook her lightly. “Don’t make me slap you, Punzie,” he warned, raising his brows at her. “I love you. I do. But, you’re with Flynn. I.. I can’t..” Peter dropped his gaze to the floor because it hurt too much to say the words and look at the hurt that was surely crossing her face.

Rapunzel paced frantically, rambling on about how Peter shouldn’t love her. And God it hurt to even say the words, because he loved her. He had said it, and as much as she knew she should regret saying, that she should take back the three little words, she couldn’t. Because she loved him, oh God she loved so much more than she should. Her breathing was rapid, and shallow as Peter gripped her shoulders, making her shut up and look at him. As the words left his lips, those perfect lips that had been molded with hers just moments ago and his gaze dropped from her, her heart shattered all over again. And she deserved it, oh boy did she deserve everything in this moment. “Peter I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have said it.” She breathed, new pools of tears forming in her eyes. “If…if you like….if you don’t want to talk to me for a while, or take me to your father’s wedding anymore I would understand.” Her voice cracked as she spoke and she cursed herself for being so weak.

Peter looked up at Rapunzel then, his heart sinking at the tiny crack in her words. He took a step towards her, gently taking her hands in his and holding them against his chest. “I’m glad you said it. I’m not sorry. I regret nothing. I could never stop talking to you, Punzie. You’re my best friend.” He told her earnestly, his voice soft as velvet and smooth as honey. “If you’ll come, I would still love to bring you to my dad’s wedding.”

Rapunzel couldn’t stop a tear from escaping the pool that had formed in her eye, it dripped down her cheek slowly as she looked at Peter, her hands wrapping around his tightly. As if, if she let go, he would be gone forever. With his words she couldn’t help but wrap her arms around him and nuzzle her head into the crook of his neck, where she fit perfectly. “I’ll still come.” She whispered weakly, and her heart beat went wild. She hated this. But God she loved being around Peter.

Peter stared at Meg as she pulled away from him suddenly. “What is it, Meg?” After the murmured confession, he figured that she’d want to be close to him. Instead she’d jumped away like he’d burned her skin.

Her breaths came in short ragged burts. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she finally raised her gaze to meet his. He looked pained. It hurt her to see him this way and she curled into a ball, allowing her head to rest in his lap. “I can’t,” she whispered, raising her hand to she could chew on her thumbnail. Something she hadn’t done since she was a child.

Peter stared down at her, mouth slightly agape as he tried to figure out what was going on in her head. “Okay…” he murmured, leaning back against the bleachers. Peter flicked his tongue over hers before withdrawing. He nibbled on her lower lip gently as he pulled back, eyes still closed. He sighed softly, blinking a few times before his gaze settled on her again. He ran his fingers through her hair, from root to end, letting it fall softly back around her shoulders. He smiled softly at her, taking in her flushed appearance and chuckling quietly. His eyes drifted to the backdrop, suddenly recalling who’s room the were in. “I- uh… Flynn… You..” Peter stumbled over his words, which rarely happened; only when the situation called for it.

Rapunzel could feel herself leaning into Peter as he began to withdraw, she didn’t want it to end, but she forced herself to stay put. Her eyes were shut, and her skin was flushed while a delayed shiver ran down her spine. The way he ran his fingers through her hair made another shiver run through her, and as a sigh leaked from her lip, her eyes slowly opened. A soft smile settled into her lips before his words leaked out of his mouth. Then the smile fell and her heart thumped loudly in her chest. “I am an awful person.” She groaned, practically shooting up from Flynn’s bed, she didn’t deserve to even sit on it any longer. “Oh God. How could you possibly love me?!” She breathed, unaware that she was floating back into a rambling state.

“Hey!” Peter said sternly, standing up and gripping her shoulders as she started to ramble again. He shook her lightly. “Don’t make me slap you, Punzie,” he warned, raising his brows at her. “I love you. I do. But, you’re with Flynn. I.. Peter smiled against Meg’s lips as she gave into him. He moved his mouth against, and with, hers. For the moment, he could lose himself in all that she was, tasting her, feeling her. One of his hands cupped the back of her head, pulling her closer, while the other found her hip. His fingers trail under the hem of her shirt, skimming lightly over her creamy skin.

When his fingers trailed under her shirt, a shock jolted through her body. The memory of that one amazing night at the rave filtered through her mind. There was no stopping her now. This was it. The moment of truth where everything would be set aside and feelings were spelled out. Pulling away for but a moment, Meg pressed her forehead against Peter’s. Not willing to look into those jade green eyes just yet. “I-I think I love you,” she said. But at that precise moment, Hades filled her mind and she pulled away.

Peter stared at Meg as she pulled away from him suddenly. “What is it, Meg?” After the murmured confession, he figured that she’d want to be close to him. Instead she’d jumped away like he’d burned her skin.

His hand slid around to the back of her head, knotting ever so gently in the soft blonde hair at the base of her skull. This wasn’t like kissing Tinkerbell, or even Meg. They we’re tough-as-nails girls who liked getting rough. Rapunzel, she was different; she was his delicate china doll. His tongue curled against hers, urging it slowly back so her could explore her mouth after so long. Memories of his first night at Walt came flooding back as he remembered the pattern of the roof of her mouth, the caress of her tongue.

She couldn’t get close enough to Peter to satisfy her in the position they were in, but she didn’t dare break the kiss. He was gentle with her, which was like a breath of fresh air after all the roughness she’d been given in the tower, even out of the tower.  The heat of his kiss, and the taste of his tongue exploring her mouth fixed more of the tears that had happened in her heart, and for a moment she wasn’t so broken. Rapunzel never felt broken around Peter, he always made her feel better than she’d grown up believing she was. Everything about kissing Peter was different from kissing Flynn. She could remember the way his lips had molded to hers the first night she’d met him, but now it was different. There wasn’t paraphernalia coursing through their bloodstreams. They were sober.

Peter flicked his tongue over hers before withdrawing. He nibbled on her lower lip gently as he pulled back, eyes still closed.
